Why Even Big Tech Companies Keep Getting Hacked—and What They Plan to Do About It
WSJ: This past week two companies, Uber and Rockstar Games, were hacked and landed them on a growing list of major organizations affected by cybersecurity flaws. The weakest link in security since the beginning of time has been humans.The growing philosophy of zero-trust architecture assumes that no matter how robust a company’s external defenses are, hackers can get in. Companies need to get on board with this culture shift and it requires a commitment from their most senior leaders to revamp their systems and change many layers of security.
Slack’s and Teams’ Lax App Security Raises Alarms
Wired: A March 2022 study by researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison raised concerns about Business Collaboration Platforms like Microsoft Teams and Slack. These platforms enable teamwork by supporting text chatting and third-party resource integration. These researchers found significant risks in the third-party app model of both organizations. While some problems can be fixed with a simple patch, deeper problems will remain if the apps are hosted on third-party platforms.
