Oklahoma State University Agrees to $875K OCR Data Breach Settlement

Health IT Security: A data breach settlement was made between the Oklahoma State University – Center for Health Sciences and the HHS Office for Civil Rights. The university was ordered to pay almost $900,000 and is implementing a corrective action plan to settle various HIPAA violations. The breach occurred back in 2016 and hackers gained access to electronic protected health information. Hackers installed malware and exposed information of almost 300,000 individuals.
