Politico: Some of Ukraine’s government websites were down due to massive DDos (distributed denial-of-service) attacks. Websites inaccessible included banks, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the national parliament. The Ukraine government websites keep getting disrupted by large-scale DDos attacks and are forced to shut down. Countries like Australia, US and the UK are blaming Russia’s military intelligence group for being behind these attacks.
The Hill: It’s rare that there’s bipartisan support in the Senate nowadays but they recently passed cybersecurity legislation that will require critical sector companies to alert the government of potential hacks or ransomware. There are three bills that comprise The Strengthening American Cybersecurity Act and it comes off of the US urging companies to prepare for possible Russian cyberattacks in retaliation over US sanctions due to invading Ukraine.
CSO: The Republic of Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) is imposing a 17 million euro fine ($18.7 USD) on Meta after multiple breach violations from 2018. It found that the Facebook parent company breached a variety of articles of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). Meta keeps getting hit with fines from GDPR such as the €255 million fee for insufficient privacy policies at WhatsApp in 2021.
