Apple urged to address privacy gaps to protect reproductive health data
SC Magazine: Ten state attorneys are recommending that Apple address possible gaps in privacy protections to ensure reproductive health data for consumers are secure and not used to obtain location information in states where abortions become illegal. Studies over the years confirm that health and mental health apps often share user data with third parties – with users mostly unaware that their information is being shared. The attorney generals are urging Apply to conduct audits to ensure reproductive health information is protected “from being wrongfully exploited by those who would use it to harm pregnant people or providers” and also increase privacy protections of the apps.
